Garlic bread: right on taste, light on calories

by mooadmin on February 4, 2012

Some people love to knead bread. Maybe it relaxes them from garden chores or helps them work out frustrations. The bread machine is the perfect appliance for everyone else — those who love the smell and taste of freshly baked bread and rolls, but don’t have the need to knead.

Nothing beats the taste of the fresh ingredients that go into my homemade version of garlic bread. Here is the recipe for garlic bread 1 1/2 pound loaf (bread machine). This bread  usually turns out gorgeous, golden, crusty and so fluffy. The crust is chewy but the inside is light and airy.

Ingredients:

1 cup water — plus

1 tablespoon water  or skim milk

1 tablespoon  of olive oil or butter — softened

3-4 garlic cloves –  fresh, finely chopped

3 cups bread flour

2 tablespoon dry milk

2 tablespoon sugar  or honey

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves

½ teaspoon dried rosemary leaves

¼ teaspoon dried thyme leaves

2 1/4 teaspoons bread machine yeast

Place the ingredients in the bread pan in the order recommended by your machine’s manufacturer.  Choose the appropriate cycle. When finished, remove carefully and let cool out of the bread machine for a few minutes. Slice, and enjoy immediately for a delicious time.

Fresh garlic is actually very good for you. It is a natural antibiotic, and has been shown to relax blood vessels, increase blood flow and decrease risk for various cancers.

I do love my fresh garlic and use it in lots of dishes to the point my husband has called me a garlicholic. Eating garlic bread and other garlic products can also be helpful for losing weight.

Average slice of garlic bread contains 8 g of carbs, 0.5g of dietary fiber for better health and digestion. There are 53 calories in 1 small slice of my garlic bread. It is quite law in sugar and cholesterol. I put garlic in just about everything I cook and love it.
